Cayucos is Great for Whale Watching
Did you know that January, and winter in general, is an excellent time of the year to go whale watching?
When you stay in Cayucos, especially in one of our oceanfront vacation rentals, you have a front row view of one the greatest migrations on the plant.
Every year, about 20,000 gray whales journey between Alaska and Mexico, a 6,000 mile trip, and then they return along the same route.
What is cool, is that often you can see them right from the beach! You can also see the occasional orca, as well as humpbacks, porpoises, and dolphins.
Even Better – See them Up Close
But the best way to really see these wonderful mammals is to go whale watching and, of course, we have just the place to refer: Virg’s Landing in Morro Bay.
They’ve been in business since 1954 and have been out on the ocean waters more times than they can count. Their web page Virg’s Landing is full of super information.
They can take you out on the Rita G, or the Princess, for a couple of hours to explore the vast Pacific Ocean. If you’ve never been out we say, “Ya just gotta try it!”
Of course you’ll need to dress warmly, and after your incredible trip, you’ll have to have a hot chocolate or a hot Toddy from one of the Morro Bay restaurants right there on the dock.
Even better, get a couple of friends together and come on over for a few days and get out on the Pacific Ocean.
After all, who says you have to do the Polar Bear Dip to get your year started right? We say just get out on the water anyway you can, and we’re here to help you arrange a comfortable stay!
